Share your favorite hiking trails, from beginner-friendly paths to challenging backcountry routes.

The views from Mt. Willard in #NewHampshire never disappoint. October is always my favorite time to hike in New England because the foliage is at its peak. This is not a challenging hike, but it's very rewarding. I am pictured here with my wife and dog Bode.

    What's your favorite hiking trail?

I love this topic. Since living in California, some of the trails we've really enjoyed as a family are at the Lake Calavera Preserve (an old volcano!) and Annie's Canyon.

Kennesaw Mountain in #Georgia has some amazing trail systems. Absolutely love that one.

Here are my favorite trails I hiked or wished I'd hike in one case.

    1. The Palisades in NJ. It is gorgeous to hike year-round, and you get that beautiful view of the city. https://www.njpalisades.org/
    2. El Yunque in Puerto Rico.  It's worth it to invest the whole day in hiking it.  The flora and fauna are so different from what you will see in the rest of the US. https://www.fs.usda.gov/elyunque
    3. Kennesaw Mountain in GA. It's a Civil War battleground, so you can get some history, too. https://www.nps.gov/kemo/index.htm
    4. Harriman State Park in New York https://parks.ny.gov/parks/145
    5. The Badlands in South Dakota I didn't do much hiking here because I was alone; I mostly drove through it.  It's on my list to go back and hike it with a group. https://www.nps.gov/badl/index.htm

@Telandria Boyd Johnson did you ever try Bear Mountain State Park in #NewYork? The Palisades has a huge trail network, too! Great recommendations.

@Adriene Engstrom Thanks for the tip/reminder about Bear Mountain. It's on my list. Whenever I'm hiking in North Jersey or the lower part of NY, people mention it. It's on the list. How did you like it?

Bear Mountain is great! The lodge there is lovely too if you're looking for a getaway.

We're currently in the St. Louis area, and here are a few of our favorites in the area:

We are working on 1000 hours outside this year, and I'm afraid we're not going to make it! This is a good reminder to get outside this weekend!

We loved Bear Mountain, especially as a family. There's a free zoo for the kids set back in the woods. The pool isn't too bad but really the open plain is the best. We picnic on the lawn and just love how scenic it is. There's Perkins Tower at the top of the mountain which will give you views all the way to NYC @Telandria Boyd Johnson! They also host a car show on the plain on Wednesday evenings during the summer. Really just a great place to spend the day.

    Adriene,
Thanks for the info on Bear Mountain. I see a summer road trip to Bear Mountain in my future.
    Take care,

I'm a huge fan of Chino Hills State Park in SoCal, especially during the March/April timeframd to catch the wildflowers. It tends to be quiet, especially on weekdays.

Another favorite is Brown Mountain Dam. It can be anywhere from 7.5-10 depending on where you park to do the out and back.  During the snowmelt, in early summer/late spring, there are 22 stream crossings which can be swift and fun to splash through! It's pretty flat terrain, but a pretty hike through old mining areas.

Such a pretty photo, Sheila! The wildflowers were amazing last year with all of the rain.
