Join the Blue Star Book Club in celebration of Black History Month. To participate, choose your own book by a Black author (any genre) and bake some bread in honor of Joseph Lee, who invented industrial bread and bread crumb machines. Share your book, recipe, and of course, a photo of you participating in this experience in the discussion thread!

I chose Michelle Obama's newest book for book club this month. I loved reading about how generations of her family have shaped who she is today and how she was able to keep a circle of friends close even when barriers arose to meeting up in person and when schedules got crazy. Her tools for getting through stressful times were simple but require boundaries and discipline. But, my biggest takeaway is a big of parenting advice . . . light up when my daughter enters the room.

Love that choice @Kimberly Bacso! Boundaries and discipline are tough, especially in times of high stress.

@Kimberly Bacso I'm listening to this on Audible right now and love it. So much good parenting advice... "You'll always be liked here at home!" stuck with me.

@Michele Bradfield  Yes! She's just a few years ahead of me in parenting so I love her perspective and the awe that comes when you realize how grown up your children are. The part about being liked at home stood out to me too . . . I highlighted it: "We wanted it to feel like a place of gladness, fueled by a sense of belonging and telegraphing one simple, powerful message: We will always like you here."

Murder in G Major book cover

I love mysteries! I chose "Murder in G Major" by Alexia Gordon this month and plan to make Irish Boxty in March for our families St. Patty's Day celebrations. This was a fast read. So fast in fact, that I'm just about done with book three of this series. It takes place in rural Ireland and I just love the how the author helps you step into the scene, leaving nothing out. She paints a picture of the Irish community of Dunmullach with food, landscape, and cultural references on every page. You'll feel like you've ventured onto the high cliffs between the Carraigfaire cottage and the lighthouse, but be careful, you may even catch a glimpse of a ghost!
