Serving in the military is one of the noblest choices a person can make. But #militaryspouses shouldn't have to sacrifice a career so their spouse can serve. Michelle sits down with her active-duty son to discuss how life in the service is evolving in this month's Musings From A Military Spouse blog.
Even if you've been a part of the military community for a short time, what have been your experiences trying to maintain a career or job?

It has certainly been tough. Finding brick and mortar work, that fits your worth, and is willing to be flexible with your lifestyle, is challenging. Likewise, while remote work is great, you also sacrifice connection. I'd be interested to know the average amount of time/years a military spouse gives up in their career.

I've always tried to make the most of the opportunities at each duty station (which includes nine years in Germany and four years at the remote Ft. Irwin), so my career path is definitely not linear. Some of the most appreciated mentorship I've received has been around helping me see my own value based on my breadth of experience. Knowing your worth is the first step in asking for what you're worth.
