Good hello, Research and Policy Community!
A recent GAO report was released where military spouses who stated they worked part time were interviewed.
Some of the most common reasons spouses worked part time were child care needs and frequent relocation. Both of these topics are well-known to Blue Star Families. According to our 2022 MFLS, only 38% of active-duty spouse respondents report they are able to find child care that works for their current situation.
Some other topics found in the report are the employment challenges these spouses working part time report (underemployment, lack of career path, & lack of retirement benefits).
This also allows us to start the topic of - if you're working part time, why are you?
We would love to hear from you about what is working best for you and your family regarding employment.
Two of our Blue Star Families researchers (Jessica Strong, PhD [Senior Director of Research] and Karly Howell [Associate Director of Research] contributed to this report!
